Slick Woods a Unique Wonder

Simone Thompson a.k.a. Slick Woods, recognizable as one of the many diverse faces in the fashion industry, the American model that has everyone talking about her. Known for her bald head, gapped teeth, and tattoos, Woods is a force to be reckoned with. She’s helping to shape the model industry in so many ways.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. on August 13, 1996, she’s 22 years old, has a height of 1.79m/5ft 10.5in, dark brown hair and brown eyes. You may wonder how she earned the nickname of “Slick Woods” well, it comes from her ability to roll joints. She’s part of the movement known as “Social Media Modeling” or “Instagirl”. Her life changed when she meets model Ash Stymest, who taught her into the modeling industry and helped with her career. From that moment she’s been unstoppable and we’re here to support her. Kanye West also contributed to her fame and success by including her in the catalogue for his ‘Yeezy’ collection. Moments later Rihanna herself got in touch with her to include her in the image of her new collaboration with Puma and later in her makeup line ‘Fenty’.

Although this sounds like a dream Woods didn’t had an easy childhood. She spent much of her time growing up between homes (Minneapolis and Los Angeles) with her grandmother and dog after her mother was imprisoned for manslaughter when she was four years-old. This forced Woods to leave her institute when she was only 17 for her to make some money, at that time by whatever means possible. She was later in jail for several months due bank scams and began to consume drugs.

“I was in a place where I didn’t believe in anything, so I was so susceptible to evil energy. I’m so easily turned. It’s not something I’m proud of. And when everyone in the world is telling you that you’re going to be just like your mother, and then you’re behind bars…”

She’s a fighter, a person that has learned to overcome the trials that life has set to her. Life can be hard but Slick Woods is harder. A cinderella in this modern world.

Woods has appeared on magazines such as American Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, Glamour, i-D, Jalouse, Net-a-porter, Dazed, V, Elle UK and LOVE. Walked in runway shows for Fenty x Puma, Yeezy, Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Jeremy Scott. Having a close relation with this last designer. Participated in campaigns for Marc Jacobs and Moschino.

In July 2018, she announced her pregnancy on Instagram and it was a big surprised for everyone, including her, who didn’t know was pregnant until the 5th month of pregnancy. Sadly, she was highly criticized because of this topic, but Woods has thick skin. You know what they say sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. She revealed to Elle UK the identity of her baby daddy, being this Adonis Bosso. She told Elle UK the story of how she found out that was pregnant:

“I was really, really, really sick in London, but thought it was because of travel, so a doctor gave me pills for flu. Went to Paris: more pills for flu. And then I went to LA, and they tried a sonogram, and I saw my baby’s face and heard his heartbeat. Tears of joy.”

But nothing compared to the story of how she delivered. Making headlines after revealing that she was in ACTIVE, yes you read right, active labor as she walked for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty runway show at New York Fashion Week. She later gave birth to her first son Saphir. You can read the complete story in full detail in this month’s issue of Vogue (page 158, ‘Child of Mine’)

This is Slick Woods story, very inspiring if you ask me, it gives me a light of hope. I wish her nothing but happiness, success and good luck in this new journey for her, motherhood.

Interesting facts about her:

  • She’s openly bisexual.
  • Rihanna is obsessed with her, but the feeling wasn’t mutual initially. That changed with the time and now she’s got the word ‘Fenty’ tattooed behind her ear.
  • Erykah Badu is her spiritual guide, Woods called Badu a “mommy role model, a mother I look up to, who kills her shit and is a boss-ass bitch.”
  • Everything about her is interesting.
